Yeo Cheng Huat GilbertProfile and Reviews
★★★★☆ based on 20 reviewsOverall rating:
Passed test in under 2 months.
“Mr Yeo is an excellent PDI. Funny and entertaining, at the same time, knows how to teach you to reach your full potential. He is patient, level headed and encouraging. He will explain where I went wrong, and what to do to correct my mistakes. In fact, on occasion, he will make me drive closer to a curb so that I can learn how to overcome a situation like that if it ever arises. Mr Yeo will take note of the areas I'm weak in, and make me practice that multiple times until I perfected it. He's also always concerned if I was properly hydrated and ensures that the car is well air-conditioned. While safety is his number one concern, he is not a "slow teacher". He will tell you when to push your car forward, to move your car, whenever necessary. I first contacted him in March, and passed my test in early May (less than two months from my first lesson, I took about 12 lessons). I highly highly recommend Mr Yeo.”
One of the worst instructors
“Gilbert Yeo is a terrible PDI as I failed my exam. He's not invested in making sure you pass. Didn't even ask to find out how I did in the exam. He's been late multiple times, even for the warm up class on test day. Also, I had to remind him multiple times to fix his engine as the car would shake every time you pressed the accelerator. When I asked him to clarify certain parts of the exam score sheet, he could never give me a clear straightforward answer. He doesn't drill into you the important things to remember and look out for in an exam as he doesn't pay attention to your habits during each lesson. He mumbles incomprehensible instructions. And the most annoying thing was that his foot was always on the instructor's brake so that prevents you from learning to fully control the brake yourself.”
“Worst PDI ever.... always on his phone. Even made me stop at the road side so that he could buy his lunch. He ate while 'teaching' me. I know he's human too. But the lesson's only 1.5 hours. He won't die????”
Definitely highly recommend Mr Gilbert as your PDI!
“Mr Gilbert is a entertaining PDI who never fails to brighten my day during lessons. Mr Gilbert has never shouted at me for committing repeated mistakes. Instead he patiently explains to me where I went wrong, and how I should have done it. (Good for slow learners like me!) For areas which I were not confident in, he made it a point for me to repeat them till I was SUPER confident. Unlike other PDI, Mr Gilbert doesn't use his phone during lessons (explaining why he doesn't pick up calls or reply msgs in the day). This means he places 100% attention on the road and the student during lessons. Definitely highly recommend Mr Gilbert as your PDI!”
Excellent PDI! No regrets!
“Mr Gilbert is a entertaining PDI who never fails to brighten up my day during lessons. . He had never once shouted at me for committing repeated mistakes. “I admit that he is very experienced, skilled , funny and patient. I took over 30 lessons with him and thought that I would get my license. Being a slow learner, i expected to master every driving technique that he taught me. But the problem is, I didn't. I failed my driving test and it has left me really disappointed because I was expecting to pass. He was very patient with me and I give him credit for that.Overall, he is a good instructor but I didn't benefit from him because I have to retake my driving test and also look for a new instructor- reason being; he is retiring. Slightly upset because I spent a huge sum! And have to fork out more money to find some other instructor and start all over again! My advice would be to go for an instructor who is willing to teach you as per your capability and make sure that you grasp every concept be it on the road or circuit. Because the driving test is harder than your average lesson with an instructor!”
“I agree that Mr Gilbert is very skilled, experienced, funny and patient. I took over 30 lessons with him and I have to give him credit for being absolutely patient with me because I am a slow learner. But the problem is, I didn't pass my driving test. Before the test I took a practice session and everything went smoothly but let me warn you that the test itself is harder than your usual lessons with the instructor.I suggest that you appoint someone who is willing to teach you each technique carefully and clearly. I was quite lost during some lessons because I didn't grasp the technique- for example parallel parking-he'll bring you to some other carpark to practice and by the time you apply this technique in the actual circuit you'll forget how to do it!I failed really badly during my test. Quite upset because I have to retake and also look for another instructor, as he is retiring.”
Great PDI, Passed on First Try
“Gilbert is a very experienced PDI with wealth of knowledge. I took 22 lessons with him and passed on my first try. He is responsible as he doesn't send you for test without sufficient practice first. He is also very thoughtful and committed. On my test day, he parked his car further away from other cars so that I can exit the vertical parking easily. He always shows up for lessons and is always punctual. He doesn't take long breaks in between. He is also accommodating when I asked for more frequent lessons and longer ones as my test date draws closer. He also teaches practical skills (not just for passing the test) and I have used it since I have passed my test. He comes highly recommended.”
pissed. no response!!
“lol above reviews all fake one is it? I learnt from him once, the first lesson ended, he didn't give me any reason or anything, I tried calling him and SMSing him to schedule my next lesson consecutively for 2 weeks and got ignored. WTF”
Good and Fun PDI
“Under Gilbert guidance I managed to pass on my first attempt and within 20-22 sessions including circuits. Gilbert teaches very practical methods and I enjoy talking to him as well. Always a good laugh! If you are interested in getting him, please call him after working hours. He's usually very busy and has to eat lunch in the car. Even though his rates are higher, I would still highly recommend him to my family and friends!”
“Gilbert is a highly experienced instructor with over forty years of experience under his belt. In fact, some other Instructors were once his students. Gilbert is unlike other driving instructors who speaks mainly mandarin, uncouth, smokes, tries to waste class time by going to the loo often or even sleep during lessons. Gilbert is patient, and often dishes out what exactly to do during lessons; he basically narrates what to do for the entire driving lesson duration (e.g. Check mirror, press accelerator, go slower, go faster, check mirror, check blind spot, etc) which is good for a beginner. Passed in October 2015 (second try as the first time was my own mistake as I forgot some of the tips and failed) To reena, who gave a one star review for his slow response on SMS, cmon, not everyone is always on their phone. Gilbert has lessons back to back and is mostly on the road and yes, his business is fairly good.”
SUPER Experienced and good instructor
“Mr Gilbert is a really knowledgeble instructor that has lots of really good driving techniques that really helps me, he is unlike other instructors as he is also very exam smart as he knows what the TP will test and watch out for. Sometimes his expectations for driving is even higher than TP as even the smallest mistake he will notice. Really strongly reccommend him”
“After reading good things about him msged him. Took 2 days to reply. Every sms minimum 1-2 days to reply!! Dunno why so busy?? Business so good ah?”
“I've received my PDL on 12 Mar 15, first lessons with Gilbert is on the 25 Mar 15. Today is 8 Jun 15, first time taking TP test and I've managed to pass on my first attempt. Total lessons I've taken is 23-25 in total which includes circuit too. Gilbert is very patient, and is a great teacher. He doesn't yell at you but instead guide you slowly and lets you know what could have be done better. Most of his lunch are actually taken inside the car while teaching, yes he is that busy and seldom he can enjoy his lunch meal outside kopitiam as he teaches both auto and manual cars. Please choose your PDI carefully as there are douchebag out there who doesn't know how to teach and ask you to make advance payment before your lessons, or even charges you money to on air-con! Which I find that it is total bullshit, this type of PDI should probably rot in hell to charge their student to on the air-con in such a hot Singapore weather. Overall, I'm glad I choose Gilbert as my PDI. You only pay to him after each lessons. As he is accommodating and knows how to teach and make us understand his way of driving. Hence the first time attempt to pass under his teaching. Some of Gilbert students find his rate higher then other PDI, but trust me he is definitely worth it. Cheaper doesn't mean is better, so if you're looking for a PDI Gilbert is definitely recommended! 5 stars!”
No regrets taking him
“To me, he was patient throughout his lessons. I am normally very nervous on the road but he was very calm and understanding even if I made mistakes. He is normally on time and he makes up for any lost time. He is also very prompt when it comes to booking circuit dates. As long as you make the time for him, he will be there to teach you.”
“Very patient and effective instructor. He teaches many techniques which will stick with you throughout. Humorous too!”

GOOD & HUMOROUS DRIVING INSTRUCTOR!
“I always recommend Mr. Gilbert to my family and friends. Here are some awesome reasons why he is one of the best (if not, the best) instructor in Singapore! 1. His teaching method is VERY GOOD! Especially his parallel parking method, I still use it today and it works every single time 🙂 To know more about his teaching method, you must experience it yourself! 2. He is super funny! You will always get entertained when driving. However, you must be alert about the road conditions as well. Don't laugh laugh then later dash red light! But don't worry because Mr. Gilbert will help you too so it'll be safe 🙂 3. He gives super good tips about driving and trust me, it is very useful after you pass your driving test! He is more of the street smart person, which is very important for driving 🙂 4. If he's late (most of the time I was late, not him haha), he will compensate on other days. 5. He have several locations to meet you then go for driving lessons but this is subjected to his availability. Since he's understanding, as students, we also have to be understanding 🙂 6. He is very honest! He will give you his most honest opinions for you to improve on. Please remember it and learn to improve!! 7. HE WILL RECOMMEND GOOD PLACES TO EAT!!!!!!!!! He always recommend me good places to eat and most of the time, my stomach was growling (too hungry haha) when I was driving. He may seem A LITTLE fierce to some people but when you really get to know him, you'll know he's really nice and he's like a friend more than teacher! I took only ONCE to pass my driving test! I think if I didn't ask him to teach me, I might have to retake more than 2 times.”

Great instructor for me
“Pros: 1) Teaches what needs to be taught clearly 2) Patient with student unless student keeps making the same careless mistakes over and over again 3) Understanding and flexible 4) Helped me pass my TP on the first try, took 4 months in total to get my license Cons: 1) Might be late for 5-15 minutes for lesson(But students have to understand that he is teaching both Auto & Manual and has to travel from place to place and might have jams) 2) Sense of humour might not be suitable for all(though his humour suited me well)”
Amazing private instructor!
“Gilbert is a great and super nice private driving instructor. Excellent methods of learning quickly and yet very effectively how to do the different obstacles and driving safely. You feel like you are in very good hands and feel safe. He has a lot of faith in you and it makes you feel better but he is also very good at giving criticism where needed in the best way possible to make you feel okay about making mistakes. I absolutely recommend Gilbert!”
