The company he works for, Newman Driving Instructor sucks big time. The boss' wife who does the co ordinating of lessons and collection of fees, is especially unreasonable.Insructor made a mistake on the scheduled date but do not have the guts to own up n thus resulting me missing the lesson. No refunds, no replacement, no anything. Cannot bend the rules, that boss' wife said... no business for you then. Made us pay in advance on top of admin fees!

Stubborn micro-manager who constantly tells you what to do even when you're driving fine. Cannot stand anyone disagreeing with his beliefs and if you are the type to raise queries for the sake of clarification, best not to take this guy.

I learned from him 2 years ago. I found that his driving methods and parking techniques are very useful. He taught a lot safety on road. These are not like the previous reviews metioned. I am very grateful to him as I am 54 years old and passed my driving testing test on 2nd attempt

he's driving, not me

He is very impatient and he will constantly yell at you. Frequent mood swings. He will be angry if you ask him questions, and he believes that he is always right. His emphasis is on your money, not on helping you. Please do not waste your money on this instructor. Pay abit more for school.

Don't waste your time

I took driving lessons with him before and the impression he left on me was really bad. Well, basically, he was an instructor that couldn't tolerate mistakes and would yelled at the slightest thing without valid explanation. I would strongly not recommend anyone to be taught by him. It's a waste of money and time. You would not learn anything in the end

Mr Pang, my teacher is very helpful at all times! He's very helpful. All the bad reviees are too biased. I passed in 8 tries! I think it's quite a feat since I'm partially autistic. Thanks Mr Pang!

Cannot be patient and always hold steering wheel when driving on roads

Very rude, judgemental, proud ETC

★☆☆☆☆

1) Rude. When I ask to clarify some questions, he would say that I'm crazy and would condemn me for the things I say. When I did something wrong, he would scold me for the next 15 mins, nagging and nagging at me. When I said a friend of mine experienced something bad during her practical test, he said that my friend didn't deserve to pass and scolded her for the entire lesson. (I was so tempted to crash his car into another, because what he said about my friend was way too much). 2) Judgemental & Proud. Every time when someone walks pass the car, he would say that's his student, and that he passed his practical with 1 try. Then there was once he said that the person is his student, but he was smoking, and then later on he said, that's not my student, my students don't smoke. (Like what?!?!) He always talks about how his students all passed their practical test in 1 try. He boasts about how good of an instructor he is. He always talks about how he lives in a terrace and his kids are all doing great things in life, earning tons of money. 3) I have no control over the car. I thought this was a driving lesson where he is supposed to teach me and not be in control of the car. But just like what many of the other reviews says, he constantly holds the stirring wheel and you have no control over the car. On top of that, he constantly brakes the car far behind the car in front during a red light before I get the chance to press the brake, the car just automatically stops w/o me doing anything. And this happens in every lesson single lesson, which is so frustrating. He also DOES NOT allow me to adjust the side mirrors. It's very frustrating because his side mirrors are always facing down (side mirrors facing downwards are only useful when parking), even when I'm driving on the road. He said I can just use the rear view mirror to check the back of the car, which up until today, I still do not understand why I can't use the side mirrors. Aren't I supposed to use all 3 mirrors? He scolded me for a full lesson when I adjusted the mirrors. 4) His assistant (wife). His wife is the contact person, if you wish to book a slot with Mr Pang. They have a process where you have to pay for the lesson before you attend, and it has to be paid 48hours before the lesson or it will be cancelled. And if you have already paid for the lesson and want to cancel it within the 48hrs of the lesson, your money WILL NOT be refunded. I understand that the reason for this process is to prevent lessons from cancelling too often. But lo and behold do they NOT HAVE ANY SYMPATHY OR EMPATHY. I had a high fever of about 40ºC the night before and I forgot to cancel my lesson, but the wife simply said,"No excuses." EXCUSES?!?! I DIDN'T KNOW HAVING A FEVER WITH 40ºC WAS AN EXCUSE. And as you have suspected, I did not get back my money nor was the lesson postponed, because of my 'excuse'. However, what was worse was that my friend was hospitalised exactly 2 days before the lesson, and they also did not refund/postpone the lesson at all. I really do not know if they are human beings. The wife even told me,"Postponing the lesson for you is not good for business." Right... Like me coming to lesson with a 40ºC fever would be good for business. What if I pass the virus to Mr Pang, then he can't even teach probably for the next 3 days. Me not coming probably just saved them 3 days w/o business because Mr Pang isn't sick and because I didn't come to lesson and pass him the virus. That is all. Thinking about all these just makes me angry... Please do not choose him as a private driving instructor...

Horrible instructor that just wants your money. He wont tell you when you're ready for your final driving test, he will just keep sucking and sucking more money from you. Super boastful, doesn't trust you with the steering wheel. Keep shouting at you for every mistake you make, avoid this instructor at all cost

My sentiments echo the ones of the 1 star reviews posted here. My entire time with him I felt so oppressed and frustrated, but because I was too cheap to change instructors, I managed to pass on my second try with this instructor, where it's only maybe 30% to his credit. He does not focus on safety rules at all, often asking me to cut lanes when it was unsafe because he had to rush back for his next lesson. The only reason I managed to pass was because I was learning manual previously and my previous instructor was a stickler for safety. He always distracts me when I'm trying to focus on driving, like talking rubbish or boasting about himself. He is so damn egoistic and thinks everyone is out to get him?! Worse is there were instances where he asked me to stop at the roadside just to help him type some stuff on Facebook. Wtf?! So damn unprofessional. Oh and when I failed my first driving test(which he pressured me into going even though I felt I wasn't ready), he was a real dick about it and even insinuated that I failed because I didn't pray enough. WOW. And the other commenters are right, he is a control freak and always steers, although what you're doing may be on the right track. He is also very temperamental. If he's in a good mood he praises you, if not he will act even more like an asshole than usual. Final thing that pissed me off the most was how he liked to make unwarranted, and often rude and dismissive comments about my life, and appearance. He also does this to random strangers we see on the road. Do NOT bother wasting your money on him (which he claims he has plenty of), and just learn at a driving school/source for a good instructor. Unless you are the kind that performs well under duress , then I'll recommend him. Boooooooo!!!

Is there no star rating? Would give him that if there is- he gloats on your failure and doesn't encourage you. Self proclaimed "nice instructor" but his actions differ. Please don't learn from this guy, he will never let you ask questions and he will condemm you for doing so.

Please don't waste your money. 1) He and his wife are really just interested in getting paid. Don't expect to get any useful help. 2) He is one of the most egoistic person you will meet. Only what he says can be right. No counter statements please. Cos "he has decades worth of experience" that you don't have. 3) Never asks him questions unless you want to set his maniacal rant mode off. 4) Surfs facebook, doze off... Ask you to explain facebook posts to him aka suggest you drive dangerously. 5) He "knows everyone." He is "everybody's friend." You therefore must give way to everyone in the circuit. Don't piss people off by not giving way. 6) In his maniacal rant mode, he will suggest that you are not a worthy driver, you are not good enough, you don't know your stuff. 7) The clock in his car is fast. He comes on time or late then throws you out of the car even before that clock hits the end time. Overall, if you want to experience how bad can it get, you then should give him a try.

I have read those reviews on my instructor. I totally disagreed with them. I have learner under a few years ago. He is strict but he will want to follow the up the all requirements by TP. As for those reviews are very unfair and untrue to him. I learn from him a few months never encounter such things. I will strongly recommended him to the new learner

He holds the steering wheel all the time and keep saying 'slow down' even you drive 20km and not many cars around. Nothing much you can learn. Even parking, he will hold the steering wheel most of time, never let you try to park by yourself and he presses the brake way too early. That means you lose to chance to learn how to handle the car. Never recommand.

Took around 25 lessons with Mr Pang before my TP. He will use his phone throughout the lesson & ask you to help him spell/ type for his social media. Do note that the clock on his car monitor is 5mins earlier. Besides that, he might rage at you and constantly hold your steering wheel and change your gears even after learning for some time as he doesn’t trust you. During parking, you better be an audio learner because he expects you to memorise his steps (which is different from the theory). He will also shift the gears for you & ask you to turn off your signal lights as he doesn’t like it. You will need to know what your safety checks are and what the emergency stop is as he DOESN’T teach you. Don’t question his judgement and just follow. Just switch to CDC. At least they will teach you how to pass and drive properly and not just waste your money.

I write this review not because I am angry at him, but I hope that others will not make the same mistakes as me and waste their time and money on this instructor. Pros Good scheduling, always on time, friendly when he is in a good mood ( very rare ). Trains you in other locations like carpark and roadside parallel parking lots so you save money on circuit. Cons Many of the negative reviews are spot on. Impatient, controls steering wheel up to your 10th lesson. Scolds you for the slightest mistakes and never gives your an opportunity to question or learn well. In order to make money, he will bring you into the circuit very late so that you pay him for many regular lessons beforehand. He won't tell you when you are ready or not for the test, so that you can keep paying him for lessons. Mocked me for my poor skills despite my education. Always using phone in car, asking you to teach him to use Facebook and wasting your time pumping petrol/air in tyre. Forces you to use his unorthodox method such tilting the side mirror way too low and weird parallel parking methods. He teaches very few safety measures and you will end up making a lot of safety errors in the test, unless you have someone else to advise and guide your mistakes. He will 'help' you brake. In his bad moods, he will rage at you quite often at every minor mistake. Told me it was my fault that I failed due to my poor ability. Conclusion : Switched to another instructor and passed within 10 lessons. Unless you have super intellect/driving instinct to understand his strange methods and some experienced adult to teach your the safety checks, don't waste your time on him and his mood swings . I wish I quickly got out from his lessons so I didn't have to waste so much time and money and feel terrible and stressed about myself for not being able to drive well. I hope that you are able to get out in time, and faster switch to school/another instructor. Even if you have taken many lessons with him, it is advisable to switch and take your money somewhere else.

Took more than 20 lessons with him, yet he constantly controls your wheel and doesn’t emphasise on blind spots. Won’t be able to pass with him as an instructor.

Objective

★★★☆☆
3 5 1
I am being objective. Learned with him for 5 months after my first instructor tio cancer. My previous instructor damn chill, with lesson and payment, but i realised i didnt gain skills from him when i had my first TP. Had to switch to ah fat because he was a recommended to me. Initially, he kept holding my wheel as well but after awhile, he’s not holding anymore. Yes, he is super brag, telling me about his 3 properties and children all the time. But i guess he earned them? One time i really like about him is that he teaches actual skills. He takes me to carparks to learn parallel and reverse parking so that money is saved and you get to learn how to park outside a perfect scenario (circuit). Tbh i would have passed my first time with him but my luck is bad and it rained heavily during my tp... he was confident i could pass already too. Took about 15 lessons with him in total. He teaches quite good and useful skills honestly. But the biggest thing that irritates me is his wife and her payment collection. Super unflexible!! I told her i was financing my driving and i only can make payment upon pay day she didnt care and insist “then got money then book” wtf i argued with her a few times about this.. so if money isnt a concern to you, then go for it. Oh, should i also mention that if u are a christian, he probably treats you nicer 😉
